Fundación Libro Mágico

Fundación Libro Mágico is a non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status, founded in Tennessee. It was established in 2021 with the goal of creating an interactive platform in Spanish, completely FREE, that would allow students to reinforce knowledge learned in class in a fun and engaging way.

Our misión

Our mission is simple: to ensure that boys and girls have fun while learning.

In 2020, like many of you, the pandemic forced us to stay at home, take online classes, work remotely, and so on. It also gave us back some of the time we used to spend commuting or traveling for work, for example.

If we had relatives in other countries, we couldn't visit them anymore. So, like many, our founder, Larissa Huskey, turned to video conferencing to connect with her family in Honduras. During one of these video calls, she realized that her six-year-old nephew hated school, and working online had made things worse for him.

She decided to give him tutoring on some evenings and weekends, taking advantage of the time difference. She had taught classes before, so she thought she could help. However, she soon realized that the problem was more severe. Her nephew didn't know basic concepts for his age, and he struggled to distinguish the sounds of letters, making learning to read a nightmare for him. She suspected it was dyslexia, but he was too young for the necessary diagnostic tests.

She started searching for resources on the internet, and unfortunately, there wasn't much available in Spanish. The few high-quality resources she found were on pages filled with ads, hard to navigate, and not secure for her nephew. She began creating her own materials and discovered that using animations, interactive games, fun illustrations, vibrant colors, and larger fonts helped her nephew learn more quickly. In three months, he learned to read. And, more importantly, he enjoyed reading and learning new things.

Larissa knew she needed to share what she had with others. That's why she decided to contact some of her friends to share the problem. They immediately started working to find a solution. They developed more materials, taking into account the educational curriculum they wished they had when they were children. In January 2021, they launched the platform www.libromagico.net, and the rest is history.

Today, more than 100,000 families have benefited from our materials. The organization has crossed borders and reached parents and teachers in the United States, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, Peru, and more. We know we can do much more, and this is just the beginning.
